The Natural Areas Team is involved in collecting seeds from local species growing in the City of Canning's conservation areas. The City's Natural Areas Team is authorised to collect seeds from a variety of different plant species in a diverse range of environments. Some of the plants we collect from include Corymbia calophylla (Marri), Gompholobium tomentosum (Hairy Yellow Pea) and Hardenbergia comptoniana (Native Wisteria).
The seeds from these plants are propagated with assistance from specialised native nurseries and local volunteer groups. The seedlings are later planted back into similar locations to where they were collected to help restore degraded bushland areas. These plants are uniquely adapted to their local environment and are therefore more likely to survive.
