Muddy Hands Festival

Muddy Hands Festival
Muddy Hands Festival

The Muddy Hands Festival is back for 2024! We are excited to bring this family favourite back to the picturesque Kent Street Weir in Wilson in November 2024. ๐ŸŒณ

The Muddy Hands Festival is an event to encourage children and families to enjoy playing outdoors and being among nature. Kids will have fun taking part in mud play, creating nature crafts and enjoying a number of hands-on activities. The event aims to engage childrenโ€™s curiosity, letting them choose their own path with immersive experiences, hands on learning and a greater understanding on how to co-exist on this planet with local flora, fauna, and the natural environment.  ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ›

This free event features plenty of have a go activities aimed at children aged 1 - 16 (though of course all are welcome!).

Important mud facts

๐Ÿ“ฃ Our mud is all natural with no nasties and is totally kid friendly. Parentโ€™s and carers are welcome to jump on in with their kids too!
๐Ÿ“ฃ We will have 2 mud pits on the day (under 4yrs and over 4 yrs).
๐Ÿ“ฃ The Mudster Chef Kitchens will be back again to let your budding Chefs can serve up Mud Pies, with a side serving of mud.
๐Ÿ“ฃ Then we have a hose down water truck station for when theyโ€™ve had enough.
๐Ÿ“ฃ Children must be always supervised by an adult.
Contact with soil is good for you, however if your child has an open wound, please ensure they do not enter the mud pit. If your child has a history of allergies or skin issues, please proceed with caution and ensure they do not remain in the mud pit for an extended period of time.

Event day handy tips

๐Ÿ“‹ Dress the kids in swimmers and โ€œrashiesโ€, because they are the easiest clothing to remove once covered in mud. Then bring a warm, clean change of clothes for them to wear once theyโ€™ve been in the hose down station.
๐Ÿ“‹ Parents are welcome to get stuck in with the kids on all the mud activities. No judgement here!
๐Ÿ“‹ Bring an old towel to the hose down area so you can wrap the kids up straight away.
๐Ÿ“‹ Bring an old bag to put the muddy gear in so you can get it home easily without leaving a trail of โ€˜mud destructionโ€™ everywhere the kids have been.
๐Ÿ“‹ Crocs would be ideal for this sort of event but if the kids donโ€™t have a pair to hand, then a pair of old shoes will do fine. They can take them off when playing in the mud activities if they want though.
๐Ÿ“‹ Once the kids have had enough of the mud make sure you utilise the hose down station before the end of the session, otherwise you might end up in a large queue with cold kids.
