Community Advisory Groups

The City of Canning works with community advisory groups to gather valuable feedback and insights on specific topics. These groups inform the City’s work and enhancing its understanding of the issues faced by its community.

Community advisory groups are an important part of the work we achieve in access, inclusion, and reconciliation.

If Access and Inclusion and/or Reconciliation is important to you or your organisation, the City invites you to nominate to join an advisory group during the nomination period. Through these groups, you can make a positive impact on the Canning community by:

• sharing your experiences and knowledge
• influencing on important community matters.

The City is currently accepting nominations for new members to join the following advisory groups:

Canning Access and Inclusion Advisory Group

The Canning Access and Inclusion Advisory Group (CAIAG) advises the City on matters related to access and inclusion.

The CAIAG is an opportunity for community members who experience barriers to access and inclusion to work with the City. The group:

• supports the development, implementation, review and evaluation of City strategies, plans, and services
• provides advice in ensuring equity related to disability, access and inclusion is upheld
• represents community views on access and inclusion matters presented by City Officers
• raises access and inclusion challenges and opportunities in the Canning community.

If you have experienced barriers accessing opportunities and services, the CAIAG is an exciting volunteer opportunity to:

• contribute your lived and/or professional experience and knowledge
• improve access and inclusion for all abilities, ages, cultural backgrounds, sexualities and genders
• raise awareness of the barriers many people face.

Canning Reconciliation Action Group

The City has developed a new Reconciliation Strategy to guide our reconciliation actions for the next four years. Central to the strategy is the continuation of the Canning Reconciliation Action Group (CRAG). The CRAG is seeking volunteers to:

• provide advice on matters of importance for reconciliation
• support, inform, and drive ideas for the Reconciliation Strategy and its actions
• review and provide feedback on the development and implementation of reconciliation actions
• support and strengthen relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

If this is an opportunity you’d like to take part in, we welcome nominations from:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live, work or play in Canning
• non-Aboriginal people who live, work or play in Canning with a passion for contributing to reconciliation.
