Event Details
The City is proud to host a Memorial Service in partnership with the Canning Districts Sub Branch of the Returned and Services League.
We encourage all to come and show support for the marchers and then join us at the service straight after with light refreshments provided by the Canning City Lions Club and the Sikh Association of WA. This event is free and will be AUSLAN interpreted.
ANZAC Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
We hope to see you there.
Important information – Please read carefully
⚠️ Road Closures and Restrictions Starting from 7am
To allow the march to pass through safely there will be road closures in place from 7am. We ask all residents and event attendees kindly to avoid leaving parked cars on the roads affected by the march route because this can cause disruption for the marchers, some of whom are carrying large instruments and require ample space around them to stay in formation.
The following road closures will be in place:
⛔ Kent Street
⛔ Fleming Avenue (between Kent Street and George Street West)
⛔ A section of George Street West
⛔ A section of Gledhill Way
⛔ A section of Queens Park Road
Please note – the Canning Districts Sub Branch of the RSL will also be holding a service at 6am before the City of Canning's Service. This service will be held at the Canning Districts RSL Sub Branch,
162 Wharf Street, Cannington, WA 6107.
⚠️ March Route – Starting at 7.30am
This year at 7.30 am the March will commence from Kent Street (near Gledhill Way) and follow the road up to Fleming Avenue round to George Street West – finishing in the Civic Amphitheatre. The Service will then commence at 8am.
Groups and individuals who are planning to participate in the March will need to arrive before 7.15am and meet with the Marshals to be placed in order and informed of which zone to march into at the Civic Amphitheatre. Below is a map of the route for those wishing to watch from the sides.
⚠️ Service – Starting at 8am
The service commencing at 8am, will run for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and will feature the Canning City Brass Band, Rossmoyne Community Choir, Wairua Tipuna and Fremantle Pipes and Drums . It will also include a wreath laying ceremony. The Service will take place at the City's Civic Amphitheatre and Gardens.
⚠️ Event Parking
There will be parking available at the City’s Administration Building, Civic Amphitheatre and Gardens and off Carden Drive behind the police station supervised by Parking Marshalls. However, we are unable to offer parking at Kent Street Weir for anyone other than the marchers after 7am.
⚠️ Wreath Laying
If you would like to lay a wreath you must be added to the wreath laying list. Please email the City Major Events Team at events@canning.wa.gov.au so drop-off can be coordinated with you along with the ceremonial aspects of the laying.
Seating is provided predominantly for veterans and their families, however once the Marchers are seated other attendees may fill the gaps.
We would like to acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation as the traditional custodians of the land and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
