The Department of Transport, in collaboration with the City of Canning, is running a free 4-week bike course, held on Saturdays throughout September.

During the 2-hour sessions you’ll have an opportunity to:

  • participate in a treasure hunt, pump track and obstacle courses
  • boost your bike riding skills and confidence
  • have an expert check your bike, making sure you’re ready to ride.

This series is mostly suitable for families with children who are fairly comfortable riding a bike. All children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Dates: Saturday 7, 14, 21, 28 September 2024
  • Time: 1pm to 3pm (all sessions)
  • Where: Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC), corner of Kent Street and Queens Park Rd, Wilson

Each session will start from the centre and include indoor and outdoor activities. The distance travelled around the local area will increase slightly each week.

Note: sessions will go ahead in the rain unless deemed unsafe. Registered participants will be contacted if a session is cancelled.

Registration is essential as places are limited.

What to bring:

  • Working bike
  • Helmet
  • Water bottle

A limited number of bikes will be available for participants who aren’t able to bring their own.

What to wear:

  • Casual, comfortable clothes
  • Wind/waterproof clothing or jacket (in case of inclement weather)
  • Closed shoes

This initiative is one of many helping locals get around during the Armadale Line shutdown, as part of the Department of Transport’s Armadale Line Active Travel program.
