Celebrate the start of 2025 at the City’s annual New Year's Day Concert & Fireworks!
After the huge success of last year's event, this free, family friendly gem on the City's major event calendar is back, taking place on the banks of the Canning River at Shelley Beach Foreshore.
Bring your own picnic and seating, fill up with delicious food from a wide range of food trucks and entertain the kids with some great watery fun and games. There will be roving entertainment and some fantastic live music and performances.
The evening wouldn’t be complete without a dazzling display of fireworks brought to you by Cardile Fireworks at 8.00pm after which, the event will conclude.
Road Closures
Road closures are necessary to better care for the residents of Shelley, so the City will be implementing a Traffic Management Road Closure Plan which will involve the closure of selected roads from 1.30pm – 9.00pm.
⚠️ It is important that attendees avoid parking on residential verges, across driveways and on footpaths ⚠️
Residents who live on the closed roads will need to show proof of residence to our Traffic Marshalls. Their visitors will need to show a numbered visitor permit and then display this on their dashboard.
There is no online resident’s visitor permit application. All residents in the road closures have been sent their visitor permits by mail. If they require more they must email events@canning.wa.gov.au and their details will be verified and passes will be emailed out digitally but must be printed.
See below map for more information.

For your comfort
The New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks is the City’s largest community event. As with all large events there are some guidelines and recommendations on what you should and shouldn't bring to the event. This will ensure we make the event experience as comfortable as possible for everyone.
We have also put zoned areas in place to help with the overall event flow around the site. These are not too different to what we have done in previous years, plus we have provided a handy site map to help prepare you for your visit below.

What to Bring?
Feel free to bring a picnic and picnic rugs, chairs and small (3x3m) to medium (6x3m) suitably weighted gazebos, marquees or shade structures. Please note that there will be zones to allow all to see the stage and fireworks show. Gazebos will be directed towards the sides of the site, with low chairs and picnic rugs towards the front, plus a designated dance area in front of the stage. Please adhere to these zones.
What Not To Bring
For safety reasons please do not bring large objects (greater than a 6x3m gazebo - weighted) into the event zone and avoid bringing glass. Drones are also not permitted to fly over populous areas so please don’t bring your drone to the New Year’s Day celebrations. Finally, we ask that you do not bring your pets to the event due to the excessive noise.
Getting here
The event location does have limited free car (including ACROD) and more details on this will be released soon. Public transport is available off Beatrice Avenue, Tribute Street West, Modillion Avenue North, and Corbel Street.
Why not consider also carpooling, walking or riding your bike? 🚲🚶 We will have free bike racks onsite ready to use (bring your own bike lock)!
