Canning Cultural Ambassadors Strengthen Community Connections
The City of Canning is celebrating the fourth year of its Cultural Ambassador Program, a key initiative fostering stronger connections and open dialogue with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.
This year, eight new ambassadors have joined the program, bringing diverse perspectives from 13 communities and collectively speaking 10 different languages. The cohort is eager to contribute to key City projects and initiatives, with a particular focus on youth programs and sports and recreation.
In 2023-2024, Canning Cultural Ambassadors engaged with over 6,000 community members through City events and connected 12,000 individuals and groups to essential services.
Ambassadors played a pivotal role in delivering 15 diverse projects, including art workshops, women’s group fitness sessions, and community consultations on waste management and safety resources.
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall said the long-standing Ambassador program has been an incredibly important part of building a Welcoming and Thriving City.
“Since it’s inception back in 2021, our Cultural Ambassadors have been vital in building relationships with our community that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible without their passion and guidance,” said Mayor Hall.
“Creating a more accessible and inclusive community is at the heart of everything we do in Canning and I’m incredibly excited to see what this year’s cohort will bring to the community.”
The Cultural Ambassador Program provides ambassadors with training, leadership development, and networking opportunities, helping equip them to support their communities effectively.
