First elected as a Councillor in 2020 and later appointed Deputy Mayor, Cr Spencer-Teo has played an instrumental role in delivering key community projects, advocating for improved public amenities, and championing environmental sustainability.
Mayor Patrick Hall paid tribute to Cr Spencer-Teo’s dedication and leadership.
“On behalf of the City of Canning and my fellow councillors, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Deputy Mayor Amanda Spencer-Teo for her outstanding service and dedication to our community.
“Amanda has been a tireless advocate for positive change, working with conviction and purpose to deliver real results for our residents. Her contributions—particularly in improving community infrastructure, enhancing public spaces, and driving environmental sustainability—will leave a lasting legacy.
“While we are sad to see her step away from this role, we respect her decision and know she will continue to make meaningful contributions to the community in new and impactful ways.
With her resignation effective immediately, the Council will elect a new Deputy Mayor at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 18 February 2025.
The City of Canning will also seek approval from the Electoral Commissioner to leave the resulting Council vacancy unfilled until the Local Government Elections on 18 October 2025, as per the Local Government Act.
