Donation collection service being trialled in Canning
From 14 November, the City of Canning will launch a brand new service for residents seeking to give their quality pre-loved items a new home.
In a West Australian local government first, the City of Canning has partnered with Good Sammy Enterprises, a much-loved local charity located right here in the City of Canning, to offer residents an on-demand donation collection service for a trial period of 12 months.
The service will allow residents to book two donation collections per year via the City’s website www.canning.wa.gov.au/ondemanddonations or by calling the City’s customer service team on 1300 422 664.
Donations will then be collected, from the residential address, by Good Sammy for them to sort and resell in their stores.
Donations could include quality pre-loved items such as clothing, shoes, handbags, clothing accessories, bed linen, towels, kitchenware and toys.
Mayor Patrick Hall said the innovative partnership between the City and Good Sammy will help promote the benefits of a circular economy and will make donating good quality items even easier for residents.
“This initiative aims to help divert quality household items from going to landfill, promoting a more sustainable approach to waste management within the community.
“Donating your unwanted goods and purchasing second hand items creates less waste and is good for the environment as well as your wallet.
“We are very excited to be the first local government in WA to offer this kind of service and we hope our residents take advantage of the collection service,” said Mayor Hall.
Good Sammy Chief Executive Officer, Kane Blackman, said that the pre-loved collection service complemented other on-demand collection services offered within Canning.
“Canning residents that use this service will also create employment opportunities for people with disability who drive Good Sammy’s trucks and handle the items, while they do right by the environment as well,” said Mr Blackman.
“Good Sammy congratulates the City for pursuing initiatives such as this that deliver both economic inclusion and environmental outcomes.”
The trial on-demand donation collection service will run from 14 November 2024 – 13 November 2025.
