Entries for the Canning Art Awards open soon!

Entries for the prestigious 2024 Canning Art Awards open 29 July and the City of Canning is looking for artists to be a part of the exhibition which will be held at the Riverton Library this September.

With entries open until 5pm 23 August, artists can submit their artwork in various mediums including painting, drawing, 3D sculpture or textile, mixed media, photography and digital art.

Cash prizes include $700 for the winners in each of the six adult categories, $300 for the winners in each of the six young artist categories, and there will be a $700 prize for the winners of the City of Canning Resident award, the People’s Choice award and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artist award.

Mayor Patrick Hall said the Canning Art Awards are a fantastic opportunity for both experienced and up and coming artists to display their artwork to a wider audience.

“The Canning Art Awards demonstrate the City of Canning’s support for our art community, and provides local artists with the perfect space to showcase their incredible creativity across a range of mediums.

“We have a wealth of artistic talent in our community and it’s great to be able to provide them with a platform to show their work in a gallery setting,” said Mayor Hall.

Entries are strictly limited to the first 250 entries that meet the terms and conditions. Entry registrations for young artists aged 12 to 17 years old is free and $34.65 for adults 18 years and over.

Entries can be made online or hard copies can be collected from the City Administration Building, libraries, youth centres, leisureplexes or Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC).

Award winners will be announced Friday 20 September at the Canning Art Awards Opening Night, with the People’s Choice Award to be announced at the end of exhibition.

All entries into the Canning Art Awards will be on display at the Riverton Library from 21 - 28 September, from 10am – 3pm and artwork from the Adult Categories will be for sale throughout the exhibition.
