The City of Canning is inviting residents to come together to celebrate the things we love about Australia, at the annual Australia Day Family Fun Day on Sunday 26 January, from 9am – 2pm.
Supported by National Australia Day Council, Shelley Beach Foreshore will come alive with fun and loads of entertainment for the whole family, including the family dog!
A Citizenship Ceremony, followed by a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will kick off the event from 9am.
Then building on last year’s line-up, the free to enter Australia Day Family Fun Day will feature even more pet-friendly activities and additional entertainment for the kids.
This will include the all-round crowd favourite Puppy Parade and doggy competition, dog adventure course, pet-friendly photo booth, craft activities, face painting, sporting pop ups for the kids, big kahuna water slide for the older kids, inflatable rainbow mister for the littlies, stage shows, stallholders and much more.
There will be food trucks offering a diverse range of cuisines, with food and refreshments available for purchase, or attendees can bring their own rug, chairs, and picnic food.
The City will also be recognising some outstanding contributions from Canning residents, with the winners of the Auspire Community Citizen of the Year Awards to be announced on the day.
Mayor Patrick Hall said the Australia Day Family Fun Day celebrates multiculturalism, mateship, and the diversity that makes our Canning community so unique.
“This event is about celebrating what makes Canning so special – our multicultural community, strong sense of connection, and love for the beautiful environment we live in.
“It fosters a sense of connection and inclusivity and provides the community with an opportunity to come together to celebrate, reflect, and honour the diverse stories that contribute to our shared national identity.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the Canning community come together to celebrate this amazing country we live in and enjoy a day of great entertainment,” said Mayor Hall said.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their own keep cups and reusable waters bottles. This is a dog friendly event, however dogs must be on a lead at all times.
There will be free onsite parking however as parking is limited, people are encouraged to carpool or take public transport, or walk or ride a bike where possible and utilise the free bike racks at the event.
