Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner returns in 2024

The City of Canning is extremely excited to announce that the highly successful and innovative Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner will return in November 2024, with local business, Camco Engineering, set to return as the naming rights sponsor of the event.

After raising more than $70,000 in 2022, the Camco Engineering Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner will return to this year’s calendar of events on Friday 8 November 2024 and will be held at the City’s Riverton Library. Good Sammy Enterprises has once again been named as the chosen charity.

With the funds raised via the 2022 Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner, Good Sammy Enterprises delivered a number of training and employment programs supporting people with disability in our local Canning community. Building on this success, funds raised from this year’s event will support several new initiatives including the delivery of traineeship programs in Canning schools for students with disability.

The library will be transformed into a sophisticated dining space, which will feature a three-course dining experience, live entertainment and a charity auction with all funds raised going directly to Good Sammy.

As the largest for-purpose organisation and disability employer that is headquartered in Canning Vale, Good Sammy Enterprises has been creating employment and development opportunities for people with disability for more than 60 years. This is achieved through operating their own social enterprises, and by partnering with local businesses to support opportunities outside of Good Sammy.

Mayor Patrick Hall said that he is thrilled to once again partner with Camco Engineering, coming together to support Good Sammy for such a great cause.

“We are so pleased to have Camco Engineering back on board as our naming rights sponsor for this event.

“Sharing our values and strong commitment to supporting our local community, Camco Engineering’s support is essential in making this fantastic event possible.

“After seeing the outcomes firsthand from the funds raised at the last Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner, I’m excited to see the potential for this year’s event and I’m hoping we achieve an even better result for Good Sammy,” Mayor Hall said. Camco Engineering Executive Director Bruce Cameron said that Camco Engineering is proud to be a part of the City of Canning community.

“The outcomes of the 2022 Gala Dinner exceeded our expectations in terms of the benefit it provided to Good Sammy and the subsequent programs that Good Sammy developed. We are very pleased to once again be part of this very worthy event.”

Good Sammy Chief Executive Kane Blackman explained that Good Sammy Enterprises is humbled to be chosen as the 2024 charity partner for this outstanding City of Canning event.

“This opportunity will allow us to expand on the successful initiatives that were born out of the inaugural event.

“Since the inaugural Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner, our workforce has grown by over 20%, with more than half our workforce now identifying as having disability.

“We have introduced a new Property Care social enterprise, which services a number of clients within the City of Canning, and we are excited to grow our impact in the City.

“With the funds raised from this event, we will partner with local Canning schools to provide traineeships and work opportunities to students with disability, and convenient household recycling services for residents,” said Mr Blackman.
