The much-anticipated Shelley Beach Park Playground is now officially open, providing the community with a vibrant and exciting play space for children of all ages.

Located at Shelley Beach Foreshore on the banks of the Canning River, the playground features three distinct play areas, each designed to cater to different age groups. The playground includes a range of engaging features such as a custom-designed Park Warrior course, sensory play elements, and interactive structures, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The project was made possible through the generous support of Lotterywest, who contributed a $750,000 grant to the $2.2 million development. This funding supported several elements which included customised play structures, additional tree planting and shade elements across the play space.

Mayor Patrick Hall shared his excitement about the completion of the playground and its positive impact on the local community.

"We are thrilled to officially open the Shelley Beach Park Playground, a project that embodies our vision for the City of Canning, to create accessible, well-designed spaces where families can gather and enjoy outdoor activities.

As a Council, we are committed to funding community projects that create improved liveability for our residents, and the Shelley Beach Playground – the City of Canning’s first district level playground, certainly meets that objective.

The input from our community has been instrumental in shaping this space, and with the support of Lotterywest, we are proud to see this vision come to life, providing a vibrant new destination for all to enjoy.” said Mayor Hall.

Colin Smith, CEO of Lotterywest, highlighted the significance of the project.

“Lotterywest is pleased to have supported the City of Canning in the creation of this wonderful new playground. It’s a space where families can spend time together and children can enjoy a range of play experiences,” Mr. Smith said.

The Shelley Beach Park Playground is part of the City of Canning’s broader $44 million investment into local community facilities. This investment is part of the City’s commitment to enhancing public spaces and providing better recreational options for residents and visitors.

Construction of the playground, which began earlier in 2024, included the installation of new shared pathways, additional seating, and infrastructure upgrades to ensure the space is more accessible for the community.

The playground is now open and ready for families to enjoy, offering a dynamic environment where children can explore, play, and have fun.
