Shooting hoops in StreetSport Term 2 with Redbacks
Following a great success before Christmas, Streetsport is back in Term 2 offering more opportunities for young people to stay active, connect with their community, and develop their social and teamwork skills through sporting programs.
Supported through funding from the Criminal Property Confiscation Grants program provided by the Department of Justice, StreetSports will continue, focusing on soccer and basketball.
The program, specifically intended for young people aged 10-16, saw fantastic engagement last time round, with participants benefiting from structured sports sessions in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.
Mayor Patrick Hall acknowledged and praised the program’s success. He states, “The StreetSport program has already proven to be a fantastic initiative, providing young people with a positive outlet to develop skills, build friendships while staying active.”
“Seeing the enthusiasm and participation has been incredible, and we’re excited to bring even more opportunities in Term 2 with local sporting groups such as the Perth Redbacks and Football Futures." said Mayor Hall.
Building on the momentum of last year, StreetSport Term 2 will feature partnerships with Perth Redbacks and Football Futures Foundation with continued support from WA Police, the Salvation Army, and Cannington headspace.
The Perth Redbacks have been strong advocates of the program, with a club spokesperson stating, "The Redbacks see inclusion and participation as the core pillar of our club.”
He continued saying “We are an organisation who doesn't exist without community activation and support. Getting people involved and having fun in the sport of basketball is crucial to us, and everyone is always welcome, from grassroots through to our professional programs.”
Parents are encouraged to sign up for these programs at yoursaycanning.com.au/wanjuqueenspark for soccer and yoursaycanning.com.au/wanjubentley for basketball.
