Due to the Christmas and New Year public holidays, bin collections will run a day later for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday properties.

Swimming lessons

The Canning Swim School combines fun with aquatic education. Lessons develop skills in stroke technique, personal development, and water familiarisation.

Canning Swim School operates an ongoing program at both Cannington and Riverton Leisureplex out of five teaching pools across the two centres. Lessons are available 7 days a week, over 48 weeks of the year.

Canning Swim School – Christmas and New Year

We offer free assessments at both Cannington and Riverton Leisureplex. This is to help determine which level is best for your child. You can book an assessment online.

At the assessment, one of our staff will ask your child to demonstrate several swimming skills. This assessment helps determine your child's level at Canning Swim School.

This free assessment will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Please bring along your swim wear, towel, and goggles. Once the assessment is complete, you can then enrol online or at the centre.

While we acknowledge certificates from the Department of Education, VACSWIM, and other swim schools, our assessment levels may differ. As a result, swimmers may not be placed at the same level as indicated by their current certificate. We will assess each swimmer's abilities to determine the appropriate level for enrolment in the Canning Swim School Program.

Canning Swim School operates a year-round perpetual program where enrolments are accepted at any time.

Students are placed in the next available class for the chosen day and time selected; specific start dates cannot be chosen.

Enrolments are accepted in person or online. Upon enrolment, your first direct debit will occur on the evening of the same day.

Lessons start from $16.50 per week. For more information, view our Price List (PDF 180KB).

During lessons:

  • enrolled swimmer enters for free
  • two spectators can enter for free
  • any other spectators or swimmers must pay the standard entry fees.

Outside lessons:

  • enrolled swimmer enters for free
  • one adult swim enters for free
    • this allows you to practise with your enrolled child outside of lessons (this offer excludes the Wellness Suites at both centres)
  • any other spectators or swimmers must pay the standard entry fees.
